About this Issue
Volume XVI, Number 1, April 1986 — the anniversary number. The editorial note records that the 17th West African Languages Congress, held at Ìbàdàn that March, marked both the 21st anniversary of the founding of the West African Linguistic Society and the 25th anniversary of the very first Congress; over a hundred scholars attended, and AYỌ BAMGBOṢE contributed the commemorative note on the Society that opens the issue. Three of the papers read at Ìbàdàn appear here, by KAY WILLIAMSON (“Niger-Congo: SVO or SOV?”), Hounkpati B. C. Capo on vowel roundness in Gbe, and OKOJI R. OKO on tense and aspect in Yala. Also Carrie Taylor and Patricia Wilkendorf on Nɔmaantɛ, CAROLINE ISUKUL on the grammatical homophones of -k-, Elizabeth Jarvis on Podoko, Kenneth R. Hollingsworth on Mofur-Gudor, and ISAAC S. GEORGE MADUGU revisiting the Nupe á-construction.
