About this Issue
Issue No. 39 of Transition — the last number published before editor Rajat Neogy was imprisoned by Idi Amin's government. Founded in Kampala in 1961, Transition was one of the most important intellectual and literary magazines in Africa, publishing Wole Soyinka, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Ali Mazrui, Paul Theroux, and many others. This issue is among the most historically significant numbers of any African journal.
