About this Title
People of the City (1954) by Cyprian Ekwensi was one of the first novels published by a Nigerian author. Set in an unnamed West African city, it follows Amusa Sango, a crime reporter and jazz musician, through the pleasures and dangers of urban life. Ekwensi was a pioneer of popular fiction in Nigeria and a founding figure of the urban novel in African literature.
