O’Connor was Professor of Phonetics at University College London and a pupil of Daniel Jones. THIS IS THE COPY THAT CARRIES THE DONATION’S PROVENANCE: the half-title is signed Ronald P. Schaefer in his own hand, and beside the signature is a price sticker reading BENDEL BOOK DEPOT — ₦3.40. Bendel State, created in 1976 from the Mid-Western State and split into Edo and Delta in 1991, is Emai country: Schaefer bought this book in Nigeria while doing the fieldwork that produced his Emai grammars. The book itself moves from the role of sound in communication through articulatory, acoustic and auditory phonetics to “Sounds Working”.
