Studies in African Linguistics (ISSN 0039-3533) is one of the oldest and most important peer-reviewed journals in African linguistics. Founded in 1970 at the University of California, Los Angeles, and edited later from Indiana University and Ohio State University, it publishes descriptive and theoretical articles on African languages, with an emphasis on fieldwork-based research and endangered language documentation.
This collection was donated to the OlongoAfrica Library by Ronald P. Schaefer — linguist, Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and a leading scholar of Emai, an Edoid language of Edo State. Schaefer served as Associate Editor of Studies in African Linguistics and appears in several of the issues held here. The same donation brought the Library its runs of the Journal of African Languages and Linguistics and the Journal of West African Languages, in both of which his work on Emai also appears.
