Volume 38, Number 1, Spring 2009 — and the last SAL volume to appear in print. G. Tucker Childs writes his first letter as incoming editor, thanking the outgoing David Odden, who had run the journal since taking over from Robert Botne with Volume 32 (2003), and praising the “manual” Odden prepared for his replacement as thorough, even-handed and extremely entertaining. Lee S. Bickmore of the University at Albany joins the editorial board. Childs then announces the change that ends the print run: from Volume 39 (2010) SAL appears under the aegis of eLanguage, the Linguistic Society of America’s umbrella for sponsored electronic journals, all-electronic and open access, with hard volumes available only by prepaid request. The three articles are Mahaman Bachir Attouman on the markers wáy and mànà in Hausa, Alex de Voogt’s sketch of Afitti phonology, and Franca Ferrari-Bridgers on Luganda verb morphology.
