By 1974 the journal had passed to Olasope O. Oyelaran and A. O. Anjorin, and moved to January and July publication. The board of editorial consultants for this number reads as a roll-call of West African scholarship: O. Aboyade, I. A. Akinjogbin, Adeboye Babalola, Ayo Bamgbose, Ekpo Eyo, Eldred Jones, Akin Mabogunje, J. H. Nketia, Abdullahi Smith, J. O. Sodipo and Frank Willett — alongside H. Ulli Beier, listed at the Institute of New Guinea Cultures in Papua. Beier had co-founded Black Orpheus in Ibadan and Kovave in Papua New Guinea, both held elsewhere in this Library. The issue opens with S. A. Adesanya on the status of women under Nigerian laws and Arthur Abraham on women chiefs in Sierra Leone, and continues with Elochukwu Amucheazi on a decade of church revolt in Eastern Nigeria, Oyeleye Oyediran on Modakeke in Ife, S. C. Ukpabi on colonial recruitment, Jide Osuntokun on the British response to Islamic insurgency during the First World War, and M. I. Kolawole on food retailing in Nigeria.
