Odu (New Series) No. 2

The second number of Odu’s New Series, published at the University of Ife in October 1969 under the editorship of Michael Crowder, with A. O. Anjorin as assistant editor. The editorial statement describes the journal as covering the entire spectrum of West African studies with an emphasis on intensive local research, and as continuing the tradition of the Journal of Yoruba, Edo and Related Studies, which it succeeds. Published twice yearly in April and October by the University of Ife Press and Oxford University Press, Ibadan, in association with the Institute of African Studies, and printed by the Caxton Press (West Africa) in Ibadan. The issue carries Akin Euba on musicology in the context of African culture, David Ross on Francisco Felix De Souza, Paul Ozanne on the diffusion of smoking in West Africa, I. A. Ogunbiyi on the position of Muslim women as stated by ‘Uthman b. Fudi, Ruth Finnegan on speech and language among the Limba of Sierra Leone, and Omolade Adejuyigbe on local boundary disputes in Western Nigeria.
