Number 10, May 1976 — the East African issue, and the one that announces the journal’s return home. A boxed notice from the editor states that Okike is going back to Nigeria that summer after an absence of four years, to P.O. Box 53, Nsukka, Anambra State. It thanks the W. E. B. DuBois Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, for giving the magazine shelter, and the Ford Foundation, whose grants carried it through the inflationary years. Read against Number 4, which first gives the Amherst address, the two issues bracket the American exile almost exactly; the masthead here already prints Nsukka as the address of record. Joseph Skerrett joins C. L. Innes and Esther Terry as assistant editor. The contents are drawn primarily from eastern Africa — Taban lo Liyong, Okot p’Bitek, Barry Oduor-Otieno, Stephen Ndichu, Peter Nazareth and Abdi Sheik-Abdi — alongside Melvin B. Tolson, Andrew Salkey, Michael S. Harper, Funso Aiyejina, Julius Lester and Ezekiel Mphahlele, with drawings by Chike C. Aniakor. The editor notes that the next issue would turn in the same way to southern Africa.
