Wolfgang Köhler’s Gestalt Psychology: An Introduction to New Concepts in Modern Psychology, copyright 1947 by Liveright and issued as a Mentor paperback (MD279, 50 cents) in a first printing of December 1959. Dedicated to MAX WERTHEIMER, Köhler’s co-founder of the Gestalt school. The chapters argue against behaviourism and introspection alike — “Dynamics as Opposed to Machine Theory”, sensory organisation, the characteristics of organised entities, behaviour, association, recall, insight — and the insight chapter is the one that reaches into language and problem-solving.
